Flat Oysters (Tio Paruparu)
The Kono Flat Oyster (Tiostrea chiensis) is endemic to New Zealand. Known for its delicate and succulent meat. Also called; Chilean oyster, the dredge or Bluff oyster, as well as by its Māori name, Tio.
This delicacy has creamy coloured meat that lies in a luminous shell. The exterior shell varies from white to brown to a muted purple.
Pacific Oysters (Tio Repe)
The nutrient-rich waters of the Marlborough Sounds make the Kono Pacific Oyster (Crassostrea gigas) so delicious. Many people love to eat them raw.
Rich in vitamins and minerals including zinc, iron, iodine and essential amino acids, Kono Pacific Oysters are a pure indulgence with health benefits.
Rock Lobster (Koura)
The Kono Rock Lobster (Jasus Edwardsii) is also known as New Zealand Crayfish. The firm white flesh, combined with a sweet delicate flavour, make them coveted all around the world.
Kono Seafood is a medium sized owner of crayfish quota in New Zealand. We work with a small group of specialist fishermen and pack-houses to bring this delicacy to the world.
Cockles (Tuangi)
Kono Clams (Austrovenus stutchburyi) are known in New Zealand as cockles, tuangi or tuaki. Known internationally as the littleneck clam, cockle clam or Pacific clam. They are valued by the hospitality industry for their versatility and taste.
Our clams are native to the Southern Hemisphere. They grow in harbours and intertidal areas throughout New Zealand.
Abalone (Pāua)
Pāua (Haliotis iris) is often referred to internationally as ‘Blackfoot Pāua’. Our pāua is harvested with a focus on safe and sustainable aquaculture. Their distinctive blue shell offers a unique serving and presentation opportunity.
We cryogenically freeze our paua to ensure the very best possible taste and texture. You would think it was fresh from the sea – perfectly suited to sashimi.
